Obituary

John M. "Benny" Bennett, 70, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away at 11:45 P/M, on Monday, August 11, 2014, at home, with his family by his side.

Per Benny's request, there will be no formal visitation or funeral services. There will be a celebration of Benny's life from 2 P/M to 6 P/M, on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Mid-Town Marina, in East Dubuque.

The Miller Funeral Home, of East Dubuque, is serving the family.

Benny was born on July 10, 1944, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Ormal E. and Wealtha A. (Pape) Bennett. He was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1962.

He married Linda Krabacher on November 14, 2006. They had been companions since April 2, 1980. He was employed by Tschiggfrie Excavating as a truck driver for 40 years, retiring in 2006.

Benny loved boating, tropical vacations in Mexico, Nascar Racing, and was a huge Chicago Bears Fan.

Surviving is his wife, Linda Krabacher-Bennett; two (2) children, Tina M. (John) Winders, of East Dubuque, IL, and Michael J. (Julie) Bennett, of Peosta, IA; a step-son, John (Ressie) Krabacher, of Chicago, IL; seven (7) Grandchildren, Synthia, Sara, Alex, Gregory, Peyton, Kayla and John Carlos; two (2) Great-Grandchildren, Kalub and Colton; his father-in-law, LaVern Pfiffner, of Dubuque, IA; his in-laws, Bob (Ann) Pfiffner, of Long Grove, IA, Kathy (Alan) Ernzen, of Dubuque, IA, and Jim (Michelle) Pfiffner, of Davenport, IA; nieces, nephews; great nieces and great nephews; his aunt, and godmother, Harriett Fasselius, of Dubuque, IA; his very close friends, Denny Koppes, Mike Duffy, and Dave Koehler; and also his football friends and river friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ormal and Wealtha; a sister, Rosemary (Royce) Ohde; and his mother-in-law, Kate Pfiffner.

A John M. "Benny" Bennett Memorial Fund has been established.

Linda and family wish to "thank" Dr. Eric Engelman, the Oncology staff of Medical Associates Clinic, and Hospice of Dubuque for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Benny.
