Obituary

James B. Vincent, 86, of Galena, IL, passed away on the 6th day of June, 2013, in his home, a victim of Parkinson's disease.

Jim was born in Galena on August 22, 1926, the son of Frank R. and Helen Barlow Vincent. He graduated from Galena High School in the Class of 1944. He immediately enlisted in the U S Navy and served in the Pacific Theater. He attended Grinnell College and graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1953. On January 17, 1953, he married Mary Jane Hinderman in Iowa City, IA. He practiced law in Galena from 1953 until his retirement in 2008. He was resident Circuit Judge for Jo Daviess County from 1974-1977. He was very active in his community. He was a member of the Galena United Methodist Church, the Lions Club and the Galena Elks Club. He was instrumental in many projects including the establishment of the Galena State Bank and Trust Company, the Galena Hospital, the Alice T. Virtue Memorial swimming pool, the Galena Foundation and the tennis courts at the high school. His favorite pastime was farming.

Surviving are his five children, Mary, of Warren, IL, Ruth Jackson, of Springfield, IL, Sarah (P. Carter) Newton and James William (Ramona) Vincent, of Galena, IL, and Martha (Donald) Dinschel, of Fox Lake, IL; eleven grandchildren, Timothy (Lindsy) and Michael (Heather) Vincent, Paul, Jane and Vincent Newton, Matthew, Nate, and Luke Jackson, Margaret Horton, and Katherine and Brandon Dinschel; and five great grandchildren. He was survived by his wonderful primary caregiver, Karen Hughes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his siblings, Frank R. Vincent, Jr., and Jean Toepfer.

Friends may call at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, on Sunday, June 9, 2013, from 2 P/M to 5 P/M. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013, at 11 A/M at the Galena United Methodist Church, 125 South Bench Street, Galena, with Rev. Patricia Allen-Stewart officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Gregory Vandigo, 24 Hour Care, and Jan Smith for the wonderful care they provided.

A James B. Vincent Memorial Fund has been established to benefit local charities.
