Obituary

James M. "Jim" Oster, 62, of rural Hazel Green, WI, passed away at 8:54 A/M, on Monday, September 7, 2015, at home, surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 A/M, on Friday, September 11, 2015, at St. Mary's Church, East Dubuque, IL, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Visitation will be from 3 P/M to 7 P/M, on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be recited at 2:40 P/M. Visitation will also be from 8:45 A/M to 9:30 A/M, on Friday, at the funeral home.

Jim was born on April 23, 1953, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Oswald D. and Helen E. (Hingtgen) Oster. He married Deborah J. Mihalakis on August 31, 1974, at St. Mary's Church in Dubuque, IA.

Jim was a graduate of Wahlert High School, Class of 1971. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Platteville and received his Master's Degree in Project Management. Jim was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Vietnam War as a medic. He was Senior Director of International Marketing for the former Ertl Company at Dyersville, IA, and later worked for Die Cast Promotrions in Dubuque.

Jim had a great love for the outdoors, especially spending time in his yard, and time spent with his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, and exploring nature.

Surviving are his wife, Deb; two (2) daughters, Hilary (Jeremy) Hoffman and Lindsay (Matt) McElmeel, both of Dubuque, IA; three (3) grandchildren, Caleb (C.J.), Elyza and Zak; his mother, Helen Oster, of East Dubuque, IL; siblings, Tom (Doris) Oster, of Shawano, WI, Terri (Lee Weiss) Hanson, of Roanoke, IN, and John (Tracy) Oster, of East Dubuque, IL; his nieces and nephews, Jarod, Brenda, Laura, Chance and Lucas; and his in-laws, John "Junnie" and Letha Mihalakis, of Dubuque, IA; in addition to many brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oswald "Ozzie" Oster.

Deb and family wish to extend a very special "thank-you" to his Home Care Nurse, Linda, with Finley Home Health Care.

Jim will be sadly missed by the many lives he touched throughout his lifetime
