James A. "Jim" Burgmeier, 93, of Dubuque, IA, passed away at 1:55 A/M, on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, in Dubuque.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 A/M, on Friday, June 3, 2016, at the Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road, Dubuque, with Fr. Joseph Hauer presiding. Burial will be in the East Dubuque, IL, Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of the Dubuque Marine Corps League.
Visitation is from 4 P/M to 7 P/M, on Thursday, June 2, 2016, and from 9 A/M to 9:45 A/M, on Friday, June 3, 2016, at the Church of the Resurrection, where a scripture prayer service will be held at 6:30 P/M on Thursday.
The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
Jim was born on April 23, 1923, in Dayton, OH, the son of Alphonse and Frances (Grassel) Burgmeier. He graduated from Loras Academy, where he was Senior Class President and Captain of the 1940 undefeated football team. Jim attended Loras College and graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.
He was united in marriage to Joanne J. Keffeler on September 5, 1946, in Windom, MN. She preceded him in death on November 26, 2005. Jim served in the U. S. Army, 84th Infantry Divison, in WWII, during the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart.
Jim was a life member of the Knights of Columber, Council #510, the 4th Degree Assembly and the Disabled American Veterans.
From 1947 until his retirement in 1987, Jim's career was in the Motor Carrier Industry, as either manager or officer for Chicago-Dubuque Motor Transportation Company, of Dubuque, IA, Dohrn Transport Company, of Rock Island, IL, and Clairmont Transfer Company, of Escanaba, MI.
Jim was a member of the Church of the Resurrection.
Surviving are three (3) daughters, Ann (Robert) Dubeau, of Fitchburg, WI, Susan M. Burgmeier, of Fridley, MN, and Katherine (Rob) Dombo, of Madison, WI; three (3) sons, Thomas R. (Linda) Burgmeier, of Rogers, AR, Charles R. (Paula) Burgmeier, of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Mark J. (Sally) Burgmeier, of Princeton, IA; twenty-four (24) grandchildren, Sarah (Dubeau) Penn, of Clackamas, OR, James Dubeau, of Madison, WI, James W. Burgmeier, of Bentonville, AR, Jennifer Burgmeier, of Seattle, WA, John (Betsy) Burgmeier and Rebecca Burgmeier, of Dallas, TX, Nicholas (Ariana) Burgmeier, of Norwalk, CT, Joseph Burgmeier, of Everett, WA, and Elizabeth Burgmeier, of Blue Grass, IA, Amy (Burgmeier) Carani, of Madison, WI, Stacey (Burgmeier) Keller, of Coal City, IL, Andrew Burgmeier, of Hampton, VA, Brian Burgmeier, of Moline, IL, Adam and Molly Burgmeier, of Princeton, IA, Chuck, Sam, Bill, Joey and Anne Ungemach, of Fridley, MN, Trent and Todd Dombo, of Madison, WI, Alexis (Marc) Pohlman, of Columbia Station, OH, Jon Doug (Mary) Miller, of South Lyon, MI,; thirteen (13) great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jessica Penn (Sarah) of Clackamas, OR, Autumn and Liberty Burgmeier (Joe), of Everett, WA, Olivia Carani (Amy), of Madison, WI, Johnathon Keller (Stacey), of Coal Valley, IL, Warren and Natalie Eidson (James W.) of Bentonville, AR, Everett Burgmeier (John), of Dallas, TX, William, Emily and Benjamin Pohlman (Alexis), Alexander Miller (Jon); two (2) brothers, Robert A. (Mary) Burgmeier and Richard J. (Marlene) Burgmeier, and a sister, Carol F. (Burgmeier) Dolan, all of East Dubuque, IL.

Jim was preceded in death by a son, William J. Burgmeier, on January 31, 1989; a brother, John L. "Jack" Burgmeier, on March 23, 1995; and a sister, Marilyn A. (Burgmeier) Muir, on October 11, 2004.
A James A. Burgmeier Catholic Charities Memorial Fund has been established.
