Irene was born July 22, 1923, in Hazel Green, WI, the youngest daughter of Joseph and Theresa (Berger) Heim. She was raised along with her five sisters and one brother on the family farm in rural Hazel Green. She graduated from St. Joseph's School, Sinsinawa. She married Gilbert B. Tranel, on April 20, 1948, at St. Joseph's Church, Sinsinawa. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2009. Together they farmed in Menominee, IL, and were blessed with eleven children. They raised their family with great values of loving, family, faith and country. Irene was a homemaker, devoted to the care of her family. She enjoyed baking all varieties of homemade breads, rolls, and cookies, any visitor to her home always left with a "care package". She always had a huge garden from which she canned and preserved everything imaginable for her family, neighbors, and friends, Her family was always blessed with homemade meals. She enjoyed crocheting, making crafts, quilting, and sewing; it is amazing what you can make out of flour sacks, and there were many jeans, overalls, and coats that survived another day due to creative patching. The daily rosary was a ritual at her home and gave her great comfort throughout her life. She always said, "If you fall asleep before you finish, the angels will say it for you". The greatest joy in her life was her family, the time spent together, especially caring for her grandchildren.
