Howard N. "Howie" Roth, 83, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away, at 2:30 P/M, Saturday afternoon, August 6, 2016, at Dubuque Specialty Care.

Funeral Services will be at 10 A/M, on Friday, August 12, 2016, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of American Legion Post #787l

Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, on Thursday, August 11, 2016, and after 9 A/M, on Friday, prior to services, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, where members of East Dubuque American Legion Post #787 will meet at 6 P/M, Thursday

Howie was born on September 7, 1932, in rural Hazel Green, WI, the son of Nicholas and Mary (Welter) Roth. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Janet Elliott, on June 13, 1957, in Dubuque.

Howie was a car enthusiast and loved going to the Dunleith Township swimming pool, watching NASCAR races, and riding his bike around the neighborhood. He also enjoyed playing a good game of euchre or bean bags, socializing with family and friends, and gardening. He gave a welcoming wave and "howdy" to everyone he saw and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Howie will forever be remembered by his smile, jokes and silly personality. He was a member of American Legion Post #787, of East Dubuque, a former member of the East Dubuque Volunteer Fire Department, and was formerly employed at Barnstead-Thermolyne and Janlin Plastics until his retirement.

Surviving are his wife, Janet Roth; five (5) children, Dee Kieler, of East Dubuque, IL, Mary Kay (Bill) Kane, of Zwingle, IA, David "Rover" (Stacy) Roth, of Orfordville, WI, Sandy "Sam" (Jody) Recker, of Dubuque, IA, and Nikki Mook, of East Dubuque, IL; nine (9) grandchildren, Jessie Kieler, Justin Kieler, Elizabeth Pape, Jennifer Kane, Chad Vondran, Chelcie Wallace, Cory Roth, Crystal Roth, and Jaelyn Recker; and nine (9) great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lori Ann; his sister, Pearl Risdon; and three (3) brothers, Gealos, Merlin and Don Roth.

Howie's family wishes to give "thanks" to the nurses and staff from Hospice of Dubuque, especially Jennifer, and the staff at Dubuque Specialty Care for the fine care given to their husband, father and grandfather.
