Herman L. Ohms, 79, of Scales Mound, IL, passed away Friday, January 4, 2013, at home, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A/M, Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Scales Mound United Methodist Church, with Rev. Patricia Allen-Stewart officiating. Burial will be in the Scales Mound Township Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 P/M to 7 P/M, Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound, and after 9:30 A/M, Monday, at the church.

Herman was born on September 10, 1933 in Apple River, IL, the son of Richard C. and Hazel C. (Frazer) Ohms. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

Herman married Carol Wills on September 7, 1957 at the Galena United Methodist Church.

Herman was formerly employed with the Illinois Central Railroad in bridge construction and repair for approximately thirty-seven (37) years.

The most important part of Herman's life was his family.

Surviving are his wife, Carol (Wills) Ohms; two daughters, Monica (Danny) Pope, of Mt. Morris, IL, and Tammy Scott, of Platteville, WI; five grandchildren, Shane (Kayla) Pope, Tommy Pope, Angela (Tim) Heinze, Laura (Ben) Root, and Alex Scott; four great grandchildren, Baleigh, Leah, Chloe, and Avery; four siblings, Bill (Mary Ann) Ohms, of Scales Mound, IL, John (Susan) Ohms, of Asbury, IA, Ann (Wayne) Clarkson, of Hanover, IL, Mary Saam, of Scales Mound, IL, and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Ohms, of Galena, IL.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles, Walter, Eugene and Robert; and two sisters, Marguerite Schueler and Marion, in infancy.

Herman's family wishes to thank Dr. Lawrence Kukla and his staff, and Hospice of Dubuque, for the special care extended to Herman and his family.
