Obituary

Helen K. (Winter) Bell, 100, of Galena, IL, passed away at 4:50 P/M, Tuesday, April 22, 2014.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A/M, Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, in Galena, IL, with Rev. Jim McCrea officiating.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.

Friends may call from 4 P/M to 7 P/M, on Friday, April 25, 2014, and after 9:30 A/M, on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home.

Helen was born on March 13, 1914, at the home of her parents, Wilmer and Minnie (Wolford) Winter, in East Galena Township, of Jo Daviess County.

She married J. Melvin Bell, at First Presbyterian Church, in Galena, on December 16, 1943. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1972.

Helen received her elementery education at Independence School, East Galena Township, and graduated from Galena High School, Class of 1931.  She retired from the Savanna Army Depot in March of 1980.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Galena Chapter #740.

She is survived by two (2) daughters, Lynda Pitts, of West Des Moines, IA, and Laurine (Elton) Morigaki, of Hilo, Hawaii; five (5) Granddaughters, Anne (Jared Abbott) Pitts, Amanda Pitts, of West Des Moines, IA, Ashley (Joseph Lentner) Pitts, of Blue Island, IL, Katherine Breedlove, of Lafayette, IN, and Cassandra Morigaki, of Scottsdale, AZ;  two (2) Great-Grandsons, David and Andrew Abbott, of West Des Moines, IA; her four (4) sisters, Virginia Berlage, of Galena, IL, Lucille Brown, of Apple River, IL, Mona Bodell, of Hazel Green, WI, Sarah Werner, of Scales Mound, IL; and a brother, Clarence (Rita) Winter, of Galena, IL.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Michael Winter, Fred Winter, Carl Winter, Violet Hesselbacher, and Clara Westphal.
