Harriet Rose Mahan, 95, of Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, IA, and formerly of 3930 Mount Alpine Street, Dubuque, passed away at 4:10 P/M, on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Stonehill Care Center.
A memorial service will be at 11 A/M, on Friday, May 15, 2015, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Dubuque, with Rev. Dr. Okitakoya Lundula officating. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Indiana. Harriet has donated her body to medical science.
Family and friends may call from 10 A/M to 11 A/M, on Friday, May 15th, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. The Miller Funeral Home, of East Dubuque, is assisting the family.
Harriet was born on April 9, 1920, in Angola, IN, the daughter of Thomas and Florence (Delong) Powers. She married Jesse Mahan in July of 1936. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1997.
She was a former cosmetologist and had owned her own shop. Harriet was an avid seamstress, enjoyed cake decorating and loved tinkering in her flower garden. She and her husband, Jesse, loved to travel domestically and toured 49 of the 50 states.
Surviving are three sons, Wayne "Skip" Mahan, of Indiana, Bill Mahan, of Arizona, and Thomas (Edna) Mahan, of Dubuque, IA; ten (10) grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bonnie Harrison, of Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Florence Powers; her husband, Jesse; a grandson, Shawn Mahan; a great-granddaughter, Brittany Landers; and a brother, George Powers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Harriet's memory.
The Mahan family wishes to "thank" the nurses and staff at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for the excellent care provided to their mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother!
