Harold J. "Harry" Welter, 83, of rural Hazel Green, WI, passed away at 5:15 P/M, Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Luther Manor, Dubuque, IA.
Due to impending weather conditions, the Mass of Christian Burial has been changed to 10:30 A/M, Thursday, March 7, 2013, at St. Joseph's Church, Sinsinawa, WI, with the Rev. Lance Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 P/M - 8 P/M, on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, and from 9 A/M to 10 A/M, Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, where the parish rosary/scripture service will be said at 2:40 P/M, Wednesday.
Harry was born on May 28, 1929, on the family farm in Jamestown Township, of Grant County, WI, the son of James A. and Catherine (Bauer) Welter. He married Marion Muller on June 21, 1951, at St. Joseph's Church, Sinsinawa, WI.
Harry farmed and was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Sinsinawa, and the Dubuque Boat Club. He loved playing cards and was an avid euchre player, enjoyed fishing, traveling, and the many family gatherings, which usually included dining out.
Surviving are his wife, Marion; their children, Connie (Dan) Harry, of Platteville, WI, Dan (Ann) Welter, of Hazel Green, WI, Gary (Julie) Welter, of Dubuque, IA, Peggy (Joe) Lattner, of Bankston, IA, Joe (Becky) Welter, of Platteville, WI, Cheryl (Ric) Bertling, of Dubuque, IA, Jim (Dawn) Welter, of Hazel Green, WI, Gail Bertling, of Cuba City, WI, Roger Welter and Harold D. (Nikki) Welter, both of Dubuque, IA; 29 Grandchildren; and 13 Great-Grandchildren.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon; by two sisters, Lillian Roth and Rita Hendricks; and a brother, Joe Welter.
Harold's family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staffs at Sunset Park Place, Luther Manor, and Hospice of Dubuque, for the wonderful care provided to their husband and father.
