Mrs. Keith (Grace M.) Clayton, 85, of rural Galena, IL, passed away, peacefully, at home, Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014.
A Memorial Visitation will be from 9 A/M to 10:30 A/M, on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Galena United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 A/M, with Rev. Patricia Allen-Stewart officiating. Cremation rights will be accorded with private burial at a later date.
Mrs. Clayton was born on March 30, 1929, in Bucyrus, OH, the daughter of Adam and Mabel (Perrin) Shiffer. She married Keith H. Clayton, on September 3, 1949, in Bucyrus. She and Keith moved to the Galena area in 1954.
Throughout the years Grace was a Girl Scout troop leader, taught Sunday school, sang in her church choir, and was a member of the Galena-Stauss Hospital Auxillary. Through the years she enjoyed golfing, gardening, and bridge. Traveling, camping, fishing, and swimming were also among her favorite activities. She was a lifetime member of the Galena United Methodist Church. Her family always enjoyed her cooking that many times included items from the garden as well as her speciaty, lemon meringue pie.
Grace was a retired library assistant for the Galena School District. Family was very important to her, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Keith H. Clayton; three (3) daughters, Jane (Bill) Malone, of Roscoe, IL, Pat (John) Willy, of Galena, IL, and Barb (Dale) Koch, of Chapel Hill, NC; four (4) grandchildren, Christine and Sean Malone, Sarah (Justin) Murphy, and Anna (David) Covey; three (3) great-grandchildren, Clayton, Madeline, and Isla; and one (1) sister, Dorothy (George) Fischer, of Bucyrus, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a great-grandson, Jaxson Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Galena United Methodist Church, or the Galena Foundation.
