Obituary
Gerald J. "Gerry" Kunkel, 73, of rural Cuba City, WI, passed away at 1:50 A/M, Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at home, surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Kieler, WI, with Fr. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 P/M to 8 P/M, Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, where the parish rosary will be recited at 2:45 P/M. Friends may also call from 9 A/M to 10:15 A/M, Saturday, at the Immaculate Conception Church.
Gerry was born on November 29, 1938, in Grant County, WI, the son of Kilian E. and Angeline (Roth) Kunkel, and was raised in the Kieler area.
Gerry married Rose Ann Tranel on October 2, 1965 at Nativity BVM Church in Menominee, IL.
Gerry was employed at the John Deere Dubuque Works as a computer programmer/systems analyst. Gerry was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish. He served in the Army Reserves from 1957-1961.
Surviving are his wife, Rose Ann; two daughters, Brenda (Toni) Kunkel, Derwood, MD, and Nancy (James) Edwards, Hoffman Estates, IL; three sons, Daniel (Erika) Kunkel, Brownsville, TX, Kevin Kunkel, Santa Monica, CA, and Tony Kunkel, Bloomington, IL; seven grandchildren, Sean, Juliana and Caitlyn Edwards, Hoffman Estates, IL, Brandon, Keira, and Erika Kunkel, Brownsville, TX, and Sequoia Kunkel, Santa Monica, CA; four brothers, Donald (Dorothy) Kunkel, Ralph (Darlene) Kunkel, John (Pat) Kunkel, and Floyd (Darlene) Kunkel, all of Kieler, WI; three sisters-in-law, Janet Vosberg, Joan Ricketts, and Connie (Doug) Brock; and many nieces and nephews.
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Amy Marie in July of 1972; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Rita (Eugene) Hornbeck, Marian (Gilbert) Vaassen, and Karl Ricketts; one brother, Ken Kunkel; mother and father-in-law, Aloysius and Alberta Tranel; and several nieces and nephews.
