Gary L. "Doc" Bonnet, 66, of Menominee, IL, passed away at 2:20 P/M, on Monday, November 2, 2015, at home, from complications of lung cancer, surrounded by his family.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Friday, November 6, 2015, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, IL, with Fr. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 P/M to 8 P/M, on Thursday, November 5 , 2015, and from 9 A/M to 10 A/M, on Friday, November 6, 2015, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque.
"Doc" was born on September 15, 1949, in Dubuque, IA, the second son of Walter J. and Verla (Stockel) Bonnet. He married Polly Brunkow, on December 17, 1966, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Dubuque, IA.
He was a graduate of East Dubuque High School, Class of 1967. Doc was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement in 2001. After retirement, he was project engineer for Fried Green Tomatoes in Galena, IL. He was a member of UAW, Local #94, and a member of Nativity BVM Church, at Menominee. Doc enjoyed playing euchre with family, friends, and the JM's Card Team, gardening and working on his lawn. He also worked with his brother at Bonnet Lawn Care. Doc was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He would have to ponder about a situation or project, loved tinkering and was a fixer of most. He had a very special love for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Polly; five (5) children, Amy (John) Scott, of Mt. Morris, IL, Scott (Sherry) Bonnet, of South Beloit, IL, Fred (Mari-Kristin) Bonnet, of Dubuque, IA, Andy (Kim) Bonnet, of Decorah, IA, and Tracy Perez, of Oswego, IL; twelve (12) grandchildren, Ashley, Kate, Natalie, Sarah, Polly, Sophie, Isabella, Gavin, Isaiah, Karina, Kiera and McCoy; a great-grandchild, Shelby; two (2) brothers, Wally (Sue) Bonnet and Stan (Sue) Bonnet, both of East Dubuque, IL; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred (Sherry) Brunkow, of Dubuque, IA; and many special nieces and nephews.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Verla; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred & Catherine Brunkow.
In lieu of flowers, a Gary L. Bonnet Memorial Fund has been established.
