Eugene E. "Poppy" Wiest, 81, of Apple River, IL, and formerly of Cassville, WI, passed away peacefully, at 10:30 A/M, on Friday, October 23, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA, surrounded by his loving family.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Scales Mound, IL, with Fr. David Reese officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:15 P/M, on Wednesday, at St. Charles Cemetery, in Cassville, WI.
Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 7 P/M, on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, in Scales Mound, where the Parish Rosary will be recited at 3:45 P/M. Visitation will also be from 9:30 A/M to 10:15 A/M, on Wednesday, at the Church.
Eugene was born on June 5, 1934, in Cassville, WI, the son of Vincent and Rose (Zimmer) Wiest. He was united in marriage to Carol Jean Willkomm, on August 10, 1954, at St. Charles Catholic Church, in Cassville. They started a family and farmed in Grant County until 1976, when he went to work at the John Deere Dubuque Works before pursuing his passion by becoming a semi-truck driver, traveling the countryside. After retirement, the couple moved to Apple River, IL, where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, golfing and playing cards.
Eugene will be remembered for his giving and loving nature and his willingness to always lend a helping hand. His greatest joy in life was his family. Eugene, known as "Poppy" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will be greatly missed and forever cherished.
Surviving are his wife, the love of his life, Carol Jean; his son, Randy (Joan) Wiest, of Davenport, IA; a daughter, Rosanne Fuller, of Belmont, WI; a son, Kevin (Denise) Wiest, of Brillion, WI, six (6) grandchildren; and five (5) great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Josephine Willkomm; a brother, Gerald Wiest; brothers-in-law, Richard Blodgett and Oscar Wegmann.
A Eugene E. Wiest Memorial Fund has been established.
