Elsie R. Klaas-Beitzel, 96, of Dickeyville, WI, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 12, 2026, at home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, in Dickeyville, with Fr. Joseph Bellamkonda officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m., on Friday, at the church.
Elsie was born on September 27, 1929, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Arthur and Laura (Runde) Juergens.
She married Vincent C. Klaas in 1950 and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1971. She later married Robert W. Beitzel in 1978 and he preceded her in death on June 12, 2016.
Elsie graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1947. She worked at Sun Valley Apartments in Dickeyville, WI.
Elsie was an active member of 1891 Financial Life (Catholic Order of Foresters). She also was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Elsie volunteered for the Senior Center, where she played cards every Tuesday. She also volunteered for eight years in the Cub Scouts as a Den Mother. Elsie enjoyed staying active by playing cards with family and friends. She loved eating out at Houlihan’s to visit with Danny, her favorite waiter.
Surviving are her children, Mary Davidson, of Marion, IA, Kathy (Vernon) Tranel, of Peoria, IL, Bill Klaas, of Aurora, CO, Gary (Jacki) Klaas, of Amana, IA, and Joe (Susan) Klaas, of Dickeyville, WI; step-children, JoAnn (Mark) Loney, of Dubuque, IA, and Brenda (Gerald) Leppert, of East Dubuque, IL; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, with one boy on his way October 12, 2026.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husbands, Vincent C. Klaas and Robert W. Beitzel; her son, Tom Klaas; and stepdaughter, Tina Stolze; her siblings, Jack (Phyllis) Juergens, Mary Juergens, Wilma (Jim) Heller, and Robert (Karen) Juergens.
The family is thankful to Joe and daughter-in-law, Susan, for being her caregivers. Also thank you to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Becky, Morgan, Melanie and Chris. They were a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.
