Obituary

Elizabeth I. "Betty" (Jorgenson) Schmitt, 89, of Dubuque, IA, passed away at 5:05 P/M, on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Ennoble Manor Care Center, Dubuque.

Funeral Services will be at 11 A/M, on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 14th & Main Streets, Dubuque, with Rev. Kathleen Milligan officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque.

Visitation will be from 10 A/M until time of services, on Wednesday, at the church.

Betty was born on February 23, 1925, in Dodgeville, WI, the daughter of Amos H. and Minnie M. (Widish) Jorgenson.

Betty attended grammar school at the one room school house, Gold Mine School, near Dodgeville. She was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1943.

Betty was formerly employed at the Dubuque Packing Company, Stanley Home Products, Hills & Dales Child Development Center, and was a caregiver to the young and the elderly.

She was a long time active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Daughters of the King, and the Women's Fellowship Group.

Betty loved all animals, especially her cats and dogs. She also enjoyed feeding the birds and gardening.

Surviving are two (2) children, Constance J. "Connie" Kitchen, of Dubuque, IA, and Steven S. (Alma) Schmitt, of Sioux City, IA; seven (7) grandchildren, Brent (Lisa) Kitchen, Kim Kitchen, Jamie (Tammy) Hingtgen, Jevon (Colleen) Hingtgen, Chrissy Kennedy, Stephanie (Rhamen) Diallo, and Aaron Schmitt; two (2) step-grandchildren, Makeba Jones and Tristan O'Neill; eight (8) great-grandchildren; three (3) step great-grandchildren; two (2) sisters, Deloris L. Luse, of Cedar Rapids, IA and Joyce E. Shaffer (George Frankenfelt), of Dayton, OH; and a sister-in-law, Kay Jorgenson, of Glenwood, IA; and her numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James J. Schmitt; a brother, LaVerne Jorgenson; and two (2) brothers-in-law, Edward C. Luse and Frank Shaffer.

Memorials may be given to the Elizabeth I. Schmitt Memorial Fund or St. John's Episcopal Church.

The Family would like to "thank" Ennoble Manor Rehab Unit, Above & Beyond, the V.N.A., and Betty's wonderful neighbors for their care, concern, and friendship that enabled her to live independently in her home.

The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
