Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty Rae) Baus Holland, of Scales Mound, IL, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA.

The Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Apple River, IL. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Apple River, IL.

Visitation will be from 2 P/M to 8 P/M on Friday, May 22, 2015, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound and from 9:30 A/M to 10:45 A/M on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Apple River.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to a charity of one's choice or the memorial fund that has been established in Betty's memory.

Betty was born on April 27, 1929, in Shullsburg, WI, daughter of W.R. (Raymond) and Letha (Stadel) Baus. She received her grade school education in rural Scales Mound, Schoenhard & Ford, one-room schools and San Antonio, TX. Both she and her husband graduated from Scales Mound High School in 1946. Betty attended the Univiersity of Dubuque, Pestalozzi Froebel in Chicago, and graduated with a B.S. degree from Platteville Teachers College in 1951. She taught second grade at Seminary Hill School in Galena and substituted in Scales Mound and Warren schools after her marriage.

Betty married Edward A. Holland on August 4, 1951, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Apple River. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2012. Ed & Betty resided on the Holland Family Homestead in rural Scales Mound until 1996 when they moved to the Stadel-Holland farm on the northern edge of Scales Mound.

Betty's life was devouted to her Faith, Family, and Friends. She was the 2004 recipient of the Scales Mound School Outstanding Alumni Award, a Grandparent helper in Scales Mound schools, and an active member of St. Joseph's Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She also quilted with the Lutheran ladies and spent twenty-seven years coordinating and teaching religious education at St. Joseph's Church. Her family was her pride and joy.

Survivors include; a daughter, Sister Kathleen Holland, OSF, of Clinton, IA; and sons, William (Lisa), rural Apple River, IL, and their children, Jacqueline, Megan, Patrick, Timothy and Brian, Kevin (Marianne), of Orlando, FL, and sons, Jordan Anderson, Nathan (Kate) and their daughter, Addison Lynn, and Matthew, Terrence (Virginia), rural Scales Mound, IL, and their daughters, Rachel, Angela, and Leah, Martin (Ann), of Springfield, VA, and their children, Erin and Christopher, and Joel (Joellen), of Galena, IL, and their children, Ryan, Julia and Reid; cousins; nieces; nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin brothers, David and Donald; father and mother-in-law, James and Clara (Artman) Holland; brothers-in-law, Leland and R. Patrick Holland.

The Holland family extends their "thanks" for the care to their Mother in the Mercy Medical Center CVU unit, especially Gina and Ashley.
