Eldon A. "Butch" Bigelow, 77, of Dubuque, IA, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Holy Spirit Parish-Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque, with Fr. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque.
Visitation will be from 3 P/M to 7 P/M, on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, where the parish scripture service will be at 7 P/M on Tuesday. Visitation will also be from 9:30 A/M to 10:15 A/M, on Wednesday, at Sacred Heart Church.
Members of the East Dubuque Volunteer Fire Department will meet at 6 P/M on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Eldon was born on January 13, 1938, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Leo and Dorothy (Arensdorf) Bigelow. He married LaVonne "Bonnie" Schuster on September 7, 1957, at St. Mary's Church in Dubuque.
Eldon was a 1956 graduate of Loras Academy. He was formerly a drug salesman for Torbert Drug Company in Dubuque for eighteen (18) years. Later, he was a furniture salesman for Leath Furniture and later for Slumberland Furniture until his retirement. After retirement, he worked part time for Slumberland and was a shuttle driver for Anderson-Weber, Inc.
Eldon enjoyed playing cards, time spent on the river. He loved to eat and thoroughly enjoyed time spent with family, especially the grandchildren.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, where he served as an Usher.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie; three (3) children, Michael (Ellen) Bigelow, of East Dubuque, IL, Beth Bonz, of Asbury, IA, and David Bigelow, of Dubuque, IA; four (4) grandchildren, Steven (Natalie) Bigelow, Cristen, Michael and Caitlyn Bonz; a great-grandaughter, Charlotte Renee Bigelow; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Renee Bigelow; and two (2) sisters, Virginia Juno and Grace Fortner.
An Eldon A. Bigelow Memorial Fund has been established.
