Edward A. "Eddie" Meyer, 84, of Scales Mound, IL, passed away on Tuesday morning, August 8, 2017, at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community, in Galena, IL, from complications of a stroke.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A/M, on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, in Scales Mound, IL, with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Burial will be in the Scales Mound Township Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of VFW Post #2665 and the American Legion Post, both of Galena.
Visitation is from 3 P/M to 7 P/M, on Friday, August 11, 2017, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, in Scales Mound.
Ed was born on March 24, 1933, near Shullsburg, WI, the son of William H. and Marie M. "Tillie" Meyer. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Morhardt on September 30, 1954, at the Scales Mound Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2017.
He was a graduate of Shullsburg, WI High School. Ed was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U. S. Army. He was known for his fine singing voice and sang for many funerals and weddings in the Tri-County area for many years. Ed enjoyed having the family around the family dining room table enjoying a good song. He could be found on his Allis Chalmers Tractor touring the farm. He was a school bus driver for the Scales Mound School District for over (20) years. Ed and Pat enjoyed dancing, watching the RFD show on TV, the Statler Brothers, the Gaither Vocal Band and listening to the Meyer Family CD. He was a Green Bay Packers Fan and loved meeting the coffee group at McDonald's in Galena.
He is survived by three (3) daughters, Tammy Hesselbacher, Carolyn (Bernard) Trebian and Shari (Gary) Hillary, all of Scales Mound, IL; a son, David (Cristy) Meyer, of Sycamore, IL; twelve (12) grandchildren; eight (8) great-grandchildren and two (2) on the way; two (2) brothers-in-law, Gerald (Donna) Morhardt, of Schapville, IL, and Richard (Margie) Morhardt, of Scales Mound, IL; nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, William and Tillie; his wife, Pat; son-in-law, David Hesselbacher; and two (2) brothers, Armin and Lewellyn Meyer.
Ed's family wishes to "thank" the staffs of Galena Assisted Living, Galena EMS, Galena Stauss Senior Care Community, Midwest Medical Center, U/W Hospital, of Madison, WI, and Hospice of Dubuque, for the wonderful care provided to their father and grandfather!
