Dorrance N. Roth, 96, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away Thursday evening, February 1, 2018, at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community, in Galena, IL.
Private family services and burial will be held at the East Dubuque Cemetery at a later date. Military honors will be accorded by members of the East Dubuque American Legion Post #787.
The Miller Funeral Home, of East Dubuque, is serving the family.
Dorrance was born on November 9, 1921, on the family farm near East Dubuque, the son of Oscar and Cecilia (Klaas) Roth. He was united in marriage to Edna Metzger on May 12, 1942, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque. She preceded him in death on November 21, 2014.
He was a veteran of W. W. #2, serving in the U. S. Army in the South Pacific for (2 1/2) years. Dorrance was employed at Caradco in Dubuque for approximately (33) years. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish and was a member of the East Dubuque American Legion Post #787. Dorrance served one year in the Civilian Conservation Corps, served three years as President of the East Dubuque Conservation Club, and served four years on the East Dubuque City Council. He was a former member of the Lacoma Golf Club.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Dorrance and Edna also enjoyed camping. They spent six months out of every year for (18) years as Camp Host at Yellow River Camp Grounds, near Elkader, IA. Dorrance was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He was always ready for a good game of Euchre and Pinochle.
Surviving are two (2) daughters, Karen Roth, of East Dubuque, IL, and Connie (Clarence) Weber, of Hazel Green, WI; five (5) grandchildren; twelve (12) great-grandchildren; and sixteen (16) great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Cecilia; his wife, Edna; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Muntz.
