Dorrance A. Averkamp, 73, of Menominee, IL, passed away, on Thursday morning, March 10, 2016, at home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 P/M, on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Nativity BVM Church, in Menominee, IL, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in Nativity BVM Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:30 A/M to 12:45 P/M, on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Nativity BVM Church, in Menominee.

The Miller Funeral Home, of East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.

Dorrance was born on February 13, 1943, in Menominee Township, of Jo Daviess County, IL, the son of Arthur B. and Loretta (Handfelt) Averkamp. He was united in marriage to Susan F. Holland, on September 12, 1970, in Galena, IL. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2007.

He farmed his entire life, enjoyed auctions, history, watching CNN Television, and snuggling with his grandchildren. Dorrance was a member of Nativity BVM Parish.

Surviving are three (3) children, Kevin (Jennifer) Averkamp, Vince (Beatrice) Averkamp and Joyce (Steven Van Kooten) Averkamp, all of Menominee, IL; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Averkamp, of Canyon Lake, TX; eleven (11) grandchildren; two (2) sisters, Celina Houtakker, of Benton, WI and Malinda (Edmund) Dietzel, of Dickeyville, WI; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Susan; his son, Bill; two (2) brothers, Norbert P. Averkamp and Merol Averkamp; a sister-in-law, Pat Averkamp; daughter-in-law, Susan Averkamp; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Frances Holland.

The family wishes to extend "special thanks" to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Megan and Stephanie, for their compassion and kindness shown to Dorrance and his family.
