Dorothy M. "Dot" Kies, 84, of Kieler, WI, passed away at 7:05 P/M, Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA, following a brief illness, with her family by her side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler, with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 P/M to 7 P/M on Tuesday, September 10th, and from 9:30 A/M to 10:15 P/M, Wednesday, September 11th, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center in Kieler where the parish rosary will be recited at 2:45 P/M on Tuesday.
The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
Dot was born on September 4, 1929, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Peyton and Elizabeth (Baker) Long. She married John J. "Jack" Kies on January 6, 1951, at St. Mary's Church, Dubuque. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2013.
Dot was a homemaker and was formerly employed at Luther Manor and Sweetheart Bakery, both in Dubuque. Dot was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and its Council of Catholic Women, and the Jamestown Fire Department Auxiliary. She loved to travel, work with her flowers, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are four sons, Dave (Sherry) Kies, of Platteville, WI, Dick (Christy) Kies and Dan (Lori) Kies, both of Dubuque, IA, and Duane (Heather) Kies, of Kieler, WI; seven grandchildren, Bethany & Megan, Chris (Candace), Stephanie & Tim, and Addie & Harry; two great-grandchildren, Zoe & Kiah; one sister, Loretta Hahn, of Dubuque, IA; and a brother, Bob Long, of Fontana, CA.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold & Donald Long; and two sisters, Kathleen Feipel and Marge King.
