Mrs. Edmund (Doris M. Metcalf) Splinter, 73, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away at 6:05 P/M, on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Monday, July 13, 2015, at St. Mary's Church, East Dubuque, with Fr. Francis Steffen officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 P/M to 6 P/M on Sunday, July 12, 2015, and from 9 A/M to 9:45 A/M on Monday, July 13, 2015, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be recited at 12:30 P/M on Sunday.

Doris was born on September 12, 1941, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Leonard J. and Helen B. (Maury) Metcalf. She was a graduate of East Dubuque High School, Class of 1959. Doris was united in marriage to Edmund F, "Ed" Splinter on April 8, 1961, at St. Mary's Church in East Dubuque.

Doris married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life! Doris' children were very blessed that she was able to stay home and not enter the work force until the youngest was in his high school years. Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and neighborhood children were also fortunate to feel Doris' love. Her home had always been a gathering place.

She was employed as a dry cleaner at Premier Linen and Dry Cleaning. Doris was a member of St. Mary's Parish. She lived for her family, attending her children and grandchildren's sporting events and band performances. Doris enjoyed camping with her family, reading, and working sudoku puzzles.

Surviving are her husband, Ed; seven (7) children, Gwendolyn (Dan) Wertzberger, Joseph Splinter, Michele (Kirk) VanOstrand, Jeanette (Troy) Yoerger, Christina (Gerry) Hoppman, Scott (Sandy) Splinter, all of East Dubuque, IL, and Eric (Mary) Splinter, of Steger, IL; fifteen (15) grandchildren; fourteen (14) great-grandchildren plus two (2) on the way due in September and November, 2015; two (2) sisters, Jean (Derald) Schrobilgen, of Dubuque, IA, and Victoria Metcalf, of East Dubuque, IL, a sister-in-law, Helen Metcalf, of East Dubuque, IL; her Splinter in-laws, June "Bonnie" (Ralph) Ernst and Brenda (Jerry) Halfhill, both of East Dubuque, IL, and David "Pete" (Helen) Splinter, of Dubuque, IA; a special niece, Amanda Simpson, of East Dubuque, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Helen Metcalf; two (2) grandchildren, Donna Paige Splinter and Nicholas John VanOstrand; a great-grandson, Dylan Howell; her brother, Ron Metcalf; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Dorothy Splinter; and in-laws, Debbie and Mike Levins and Joseph Risley.

In lieu of flowers, a Doris M. Splinter Memorial Fund has been established.

Ed and his family would like to extend a special "thank-you" to Dr. Mark Hermann and staff, and Hospice of Dubuque nurses and staff, for the wonderful care provided to their wife, mother, and grandmother!
