Obituary

Doris Marie Hanft, 87, of Galena, IL, passed away at 11:50 A/M, Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community.

Graveside services will be at 11 A/M, Friday, June 21, 2013, at Greenwood Cemetery, Galena, with Phillip Brown officiating.

Friends may call from 5 P/M to 7:30 P/M, Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena.

Mrs. Hanft was born on December 19, 1925, in Galena, the daughter of William and Julia (Lehnhardt) Ehrler. She was a graduate of Galena High School, Class of 1944. She married Leo V. Hanft on October 7, 1950, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Galena. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2009.

Doris was a dedicated homemaker and loving mother to her two daughters and three sons. She was formerly employed at the Jo Daviess County Courthouse, Burgess Battery Factory and Kraft Foods, where she met her husband, Leo, while working as a lab technician.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling to visit her family, raising flowers, and spiritual literature. Doris was someone who loved reading the Bible and was a continual witness to her faith in God.

She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren and all who were touched by her kindness.

Doris is survived by four children, Richard (Donna) Hanft, of Ham Lake, MN, Eric (special friend, George) Hanft, of Rockford, IL, Mark (Carmen) Hanft, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Suzanne (Don) Dahlstrom, of Des Moines, IA; eleven grandchildren, Matt, Andy, and Stephen Heinze, Damian, Danielle and Dominic Hanft, Michelle and Mason Hanft, Nathan, Ryan, and Taylor Dahlstrom. She is also survived by one sister, Ruth Casper, of Tucson, AZ.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lynda Heinze, on May 16, 2009; three brothers, Harold, Howard, and Malcom "Muck" Ehrler; and a sister, Orvilla Ehrler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Galena Arts and Recreation Center.

The Hanft family wishes to express their special "thanks" to In-Touch Home Care, Hospice of Dubuque and the staff at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community for the outstanding care given to their mother.
