Obituary

Donald J. "Don" Jackson, 85, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Manor Care, in Dubuque, IA, following a brief illness.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Monday, August 28, 2017, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, IL, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating.  Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 P/M to 5 P/M, on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be recited at 12:45 P/M, on Sunday.

Don was born on February 17, 1932, in East Dubuque, the son of Samuel and Mary (Goldhagen) Jackson.  He was a graduate of the East Dubuque High School, and was united in marriage to Lucille Hinderman on April 7, 1950, celebrating (67) years of marriage this past April.

He was formerly employed at the Dubuque Packing Company, retiring in 1995.  Don was a member of St. Mary's Parish and its Holy Name Society, a former member of United Food & Commercial Workers Local #150-A.  He loved fishing, gardening, the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs.  Don was a simple man, who served as a former coach for the East Dubuque Little League and wrestling coach for St. Mary's School.

Surviving are his wife, Lucille; eleven (11) children, Carol McGrath, of Cedar Rapids, IA, Karen (Steve) Sebastian, of Dubuque, IA, Janet (Bill) Hartmann and Jim (Dawn) Jackson, both of East Dubuque, IL, Tom Jackson, of Dyersville, IA, Brenda (Larry) Cox, of Bellevue, IA, John (Robyn) Jackson, of East Dubuque, IL, Elaine (Kevin) Herman, of Dubuque, IA, Joyce (Dave) Merfeld, of Menominee, IL, Chris (John) Cahalan, of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Shelley Jackson, of Dubuque, IA; twenty-five (25) grandchildren; and twenty (20) great-grandchildren; his in-laws, Jerome Hinderman, Germaine Hayes, Norman (Shirley) Hinderman, Val Hinderman and Betty Jackson.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Fr. Robert, Bill & Jim Jackson, Anna Mae Otting and Pat Lange.
