Don J. Rogers, 86, of Nora, Illinois, formerly of Scales Mound, Illinois, passed away suddenly, on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at home.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A/M, on Friday, August 22, 2014, at the Scales Mound United Methodist Church, in Scales Mound, with Pastor Tiffany Garcia officiating. Burial will be in the Scales Mound Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound, and from 9:30 A/M to 10:15 A/M, on Friday, at the church.

Don was born on March 12, 1928, in New Diggings, WI, the son of Thomas A. and Goldie (Kimel) Rogers. He was united in marriage to Pauline Ihde, on April 24, 1949. She preceded him in death on April 16, 2009.

Don was formerly a self-employed truck driver in the Scales Mound area and later was employed as a maintenance worker for the Horse Shoe Bend, Arkansas Public Works Department until his retirement.

Don loved fishing, gardening, visiting with family and friends, and was the "jokester" of all "jokesters".

Surviving are three (3) daughters, Gail Smith, of Galena, IL, Tina Kelly, of Dixon, IL, and Cindy (Steve) VanRaalte, of Apple River, IL; two (2) sons, Thomas (Cindy) Rogers, of Scales Mound, IL, and Earl (Diane) Rogers, of Nora, IL; fourteen (14) grandchildren; twenty (20) great-grandchildren; two (2) great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Veryle Rogers, of Darlington, WI; his sister-in-law, Linda (Al) Hanson, of Onalaska, WI; and his good friend and chauffer, Will Libberton.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline; a brother, Leo; a son-in-law, Tom Smith; and a great-grandchild, Josie Rogers.

Don's family wishes to "thank" the Warren Ambulance Service, the Warren Police Department, and the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Department, for their quick response and compassion.
