David J. Hesselbacher, 64, of Scales Mound, IL, passed away at 11:05 P/M, on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at the William S. Middleton V. A. Medical Center in Madison, WI.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Friday, July 18, 2014, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Scales Mound, with Rev. David Reese officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, with military honors accorded by members of the Dubuque Marine Corp League.
Visitation will be from 3 P/M to 8 P/M, on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home in Scales Mound, where the parish prayer service will be at 2:45 P/M. Visitation will also be from 9:30 A/M to 10:15 A/M, on Friday, July 18, 2014, at the church.
David was born on September 1, 1949, in Lena, IL, the son of Eldon E. and Margaret L. "Rusty" (Werner) Hesselbacher. He was a graduate of Scales Mound High School. He married Tammy A. Meyer on July 20, 1974, at Holy Trinity Church, Scales Mound.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and the Holy Trinity Cemetery Board, a member of the Scales Mound Village Board, and a former member of the Scales Mound Recreation Association Board. David was a self-employed trucker and operated Hesselbacher Brothers Trucking.
David loved canning, pickling and baking. He was known for his Pickels and Apple Crisp, and one of his favorite pastimes was watching the Hummingbirds. He served in the U. S. Army from April 15, 1969 to January 2, 1971, during the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star.
Surviving are his wife, Tammy; four (4) children, Greg (Jen Moris) Hesselbacher and Amber (Doug Shelliam) Rury, both of Hazel Green, WI, Bret (Ruth Ann Einsweiler) Hesselbacher, of Scales Mound, IL, and Michael (Brooke) Hesselbacher, of Hazel Green, WI; four (4) Grandchildren, Morgan Hesselbacher, Austin Rury, Logan Rury and Hunter Hesselbacher; one (1) sister, Sandy (Ken) Frank and one (1) brother, John (Karen) Hesselbacher, both of Scales Mound, IL; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Pat Meyer, of Scales Mound, IL; his in-laws, Carolyn (Bernard) Trebian, Shari (Gary) Hillary and Dave (Cristy) Meyer; and nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Margaret "Rusty" Hesselbacher.
