Daniel L. "Dan" Hoy, 72, of East Dubuque, IL, and formerly of Stockton, IL, passed away at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, IA, on Thursday, June 12, 2014, after a long series of strokes that started in October, of 2013.

Visitation will be from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, on Monday, June 16, 2014, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, where funeral services will be at 7:30 P/M, on Monday.

Dan was born on May 16, 1942, in Nora, IL, the son of Alfred Joseph and Margaret Ellen (Graves) Hoy.

He started working at the age of 6 on the Hoy family farm in Stockton. A graduate of Stockton High School, he furthered his studies with a focus on engineering at the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL.

Dan turned his passion for fast cars into the favorite career of his lifetime. He was the proud owner/operator of Hoy Ford Garage in Lena, IL, in the 1970's and early 1980's.

Dan married Mary Thompson on August 18, 1989, after a five (5) year courtship.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Jennifer Hoy, of Woodridge, IL; his step-daughters, Dee Ann Deaton, Tammy (Tim) Freisinger, both of East Dubuque, IL, and Danielle (Noller) VenHuizen, of Apple River, IL; a step-son, Dana (Debra) Noller, of Stockton, IL. He was blessed with six (6) grandchildren, Adam Deaton, Heather & Tanner Freisinger, all of East Dubuque, IL, and Austin, Jacob and Tyler VenHuizen, of Apple River, IL. Also survived by his brother, Richard (Donna) Hoy, of Conowingo, MD; and an uncle, Rodney (Jeanne) Graves, of Pahrump, NV.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald (Cheryl) Hoy, of Kent, IL.

Dan's family would like to "thank" the staff at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for the care provided to Dan and the support given to his family.
