Clarence J. "C.J." Robey, 78, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away at 12:18 A/M, Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at UnityPoint Health - Finley Hospital, Dubuque, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 Noon, Friday, October 11, 2013, at St. Mary's Church, East Dubuque, with Rev. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery, where there will be a flag presentation by members of American Legion Post #787.
Friends may call from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, Thursday, October 10th, and after 11 A/M, Friday, October 11th, at St. Mary's Church, East Dubuque, where the parish rosary/prayer service will be at 3:45 P/M, Thursday.
The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, is in charge of arrangements.
Clarence was born on November 29, 1934, in Peosta, IA, the son of Elmer Q. and Viola M. (Cavanaugh) Robey. He married Marilyn Dryfhout on April 8, 1961, at St. Joseph's Church, Addison, IL. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
Clarence retired from John Deere Dubuque Works, worked for B. L. Murray Company, East Dubuque, and several Hancock gas stations in Dubuque. He was a member of UAW, Local #94, in Dubuque.
Clarence enjoyed working on old cars and building houses. He loved spending time with his wife, children, granchildren, and great-grandson, especially Sunday dinners.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of 52 years; his five children, Barbara Robey, of Moline, IL, Laura (Dan) Ricke, of East Dubuque, IL, Linda (Kevin) Schmidt and Paula (Joe) Coohey, of Dubuque, IA, and Brian Robey, of Pigeon Forge, TN; a foreign exchange son, Santiago (Kathleen) Lentijo; twelve grandchildren, Shaleen Robey-Minch, Jason (Elizel) Ricke, Jessica (Nathan) Lange, Cory and Cali Ricke, Erica (Josh Glenn), Emily and Elisa Schmidt, Steven and Jacob Coohey, Noah and Kaleb Robey; and one great-grandson, Joshua Glenn, Jr.; his siblings, LaVonne Mueller, of West Palm Beach, FL, Don (Karen) Robey, of Utica, IL, Nielia Ball and Carl Robey, of Dubuque, IA, LouAnn Richardson and Delbert Robey, of Benton, WI; Sisters and Brothers-in-law, Mary Robey of Bella Vista, AR, Mary Dydo, of Sanford, FL, Karen (Neil) DeBoer, of Holland, MI, Myrna Dryfhout, of Naperville, IL, Grace Dryfhout, of Villa Park, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin and Elmer; his mother and father-in-law, John (Jelle) and Ruth Dryfhout; brothers-in-law, Jim Richardson, Howard and Glen Dryfhout; and a nephew, Jim Robey.
In lieu of flowers, a Clarence J. Robey Memorial Fund has been establishes.
Marilyn and family wish to give special "thanks" to the Doctors and Nurses at Tri-State Dialysis, Stonehill Care Center "Skilled Unit", and the Nurses at UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital, especially 5th Floor and the ICU.
