Chrystal A. (Smith) Muchow, 91, of Galena, IL, passed away at 5 P/M, Saturday, October 5, 2013, at the Galena-Stauss Senior Care Community, with her loving family by her side.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A/M, Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Westminister Presbyterian Church, Galena, with Rev. Stacy Cavanaugh officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.
Friends may call from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, Tuesday, October 8th, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Galena, and after 9:30 A/M, Wednesday, October 9th, at the church.
Chrystal was born on March 10, 1922, in Galena, the daughter of Christy and Bernice (Wilhelmi) Smith.
Chrystal loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Chrystal was known for her many meals, jellies, and mints that she would lovingly prepare for family, friends, and neighbors. She worked at a variety of places including the General Store on Main Street, and Creslanes Bowling Alley, as a cook, both in Galena.
Surviving are six children, Chrystal "Dolly" (David) Hueneke, of Maquoketa, IA, Penny (John) Basten, and Butch (Connie) Muchow, both of Galena, IL, Bill (Diane) Muchow, of East Dubuque, IL, Howard (Cyndy) Muchow, of Galena, IL, and Bernie (Marilynn) Muchow, of Scales Mound, IL; 17 Grandchildren, Chris Stadel and Tammie Turner, Nikki Peebles, Matt Basten and Jolene Northrup, Jennifer and Jason Muchow, Renee Hartwig, Bill, Jr. and Ryan Muchow, Kevin, Keith, Carissa, Alicia and Miranda Muchow, Nikki Nelson, and Justin Muchow; 28 Great-Granchildren; 4 Step Great-Grandchildren; and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren; a sister, Louise Larson, of Rockford, IL; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two special nieces, Deanna and Ellen, and their husbands, they like all her family, did a lot of special things for her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Edna Smith, Bernice Schilling, Romaine Smith, Robert Smith, Wilma Smith, Marie Gerlich, Lida Shriver, and Lloyd Smith.
A "special thanks" to the Galena- Stauss Nursing Home staff for all the care they gave to our Mom and also Hospice of Dubuque.
