Charlotte Elizabeth (Hurst) Knuckey, 91, of Peru, IL, and formerly of Scales Mound, IL, died peacefully in her sleep, on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Illinois Valley Community Hospital, in Peru, IL.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A/M, Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Scales Mound, with Rev. Stanislaw Kos officiating. Burial will be in Scales Mound Township Cemetery. Friends and family may call after 10 A/M, on Wednesday, at the Church.
Sister of the late David Hurst (deceased) and Rosemary Hurst, of South Milwaukee, WI, Charlotte was born on November 9, 1922, in Potosi, WI, the daughter of Tony and Margaret Hurst. She was a graduate of Potosi High School, class of 1939, and graduated from Bayless Business College, in Dubuque, IA, in 1942.
She was united in marriage to David Trevarthan Knuckey on November 23, 1946, in Dubuque, IA, and he preceded her in death on June 19, 1995. Starting their family of five (5) children in Scales Mound, IL, Charlotte and David moved to Mendota, IL, where they lived for fourteen (14) years. They enjoyed retirement years with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at their lake home in Lake Wildwood, IL.
Surviving family includes daughter-in-law, Peggy Knuckey, of Ruskin, FL; a son, James and Connie Knuckey, of Moline, IL, daughter, Linda Lambel, of McHenry, IL, daughter, Barbara and Dale Holloway, of Mendota, IL, and daughter, Donna and Bill Donna, of Magnolia, IL. Charlotte was also blessed with twelve (12) Grandchildren; and twenty-six (26) Great-grandchildren.
Charlotte was preceded in death by a son, Donald Knuckey.
Charlotte was known for her sense of humor, witty comebacks (appropriate or not), and love of books. When it came to sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking or baking, Charlotte was one of the best and this will also be a part of her legacy.
