Charles L. Peters, Jr., 82, of East Dubuque, IL, formerly of Galena, IL, passed away at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center, on Thursday, January 1, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Family & friends may call from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m., on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Bosco Aruldoss officiating. Burial will be at a later date, at St. Michael Cemetery, in Galena, IL.

Charlie was born on July 17, 1943, in Galena, IL, the son of Charles and Marcella (Powers) Peters.

Charlie retired from the Galena Middle School as their night janitor. He loved his 1956 Chevy and his 1932 Hupmobile and enjoyed going to car shows.

He is survived by his son, James (Marcia), of Galena, IL; his grandchildren, Michael (Samantha), of Florida, Ashley (Alex) Kirton, of Dubuque, IA, April, River, James and Austin, of Galena, IL; his great-grandchildren, Brayden, Emmalyn, Grayson, of Florida, and Athylia, of Dubuque, IA, his beloved Ali and Shelli, of East Dubuque, IL; his sister, Karen Freese, of Menominee, IL; his dear friend, Billy Grassel; and his ex-wife, Jeanne (Hayes) Peters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marcella; and his brother, Bill Peters.

The Miller Funeral Home, of East Dubuque, IL, is assisting the family.
