IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Ann
Friederick
June 16, 1942 – May 18, 2023
On the cusp of her 81st birthday, Carol Ann Friederick (née Mohr), of Potosi, triumphed over her terminal illness, departing from this life to meet the Lord on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Born on June 16, 1942, in Springfield, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of John E. and Mildred C. (Patterson) Mohr.
She married Donald L. Friederick on May 2, 1959, by whom she was widowed in 2006. Their legacy continued through their nine children, 35 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Their children include Mark (Kris), Michael (Angela), Michelle "Missy" Johnson, Jeffrey (Cindy), Jerald (Carol), Jennifer (Daniel) Davis, Jason (Janet), Molly (Matt) Szymkowski and Melissa (Sam) Ross, all from Potosi. Their home was not exclusive to their own children, but also a haven for anyone who needed a bed to sleep in or a home-cooked meal, especially Tony (Erin) Isabelle, who was often considered their tenth child.
She will be missed dearly by her surviving siblings and in-laws; namely Don Morshead, Mary Jo Schmitt, Peosta, IA, Tom & JoAnne Mohr, Dubuque, IA, Margie & Dave Wilson, Bertram, IA, Terry & Regina Digman, Ankeny, IA, David & Diane Mohr, Peosta, IA, Cletus & Esther Kruser, Hazel Green, WI, Pat Friederick, Janet Friederick, Kenny Friederick, LaMotte, IA and Carl Friederick, Hazel Green, WI. She was proceeded in death by her husband Don; both of their parents; her dear sister, Donna (Don) Morshead; her brother, John; and her in-laws, Bob Schmidt (MaryJo), Ralph & Florence Friederick, Joe & Mary Friederick, Earl Friederick (Pat) and Leo Friederick (Janet), Carol Friederick (Carl) and Shirley Friederick; as well as by her grandson, Tate Friederick.
Carol's joyful spirit and unwavering love for children touched all who encountered her. She advocated for all children, born and unborn. She was the proud aunt to her 100+ nieces and nephews, many of which she had personal relationships with. There was not an adventure or a party she would miss or a friend in need who didn't count on her for help. Their home was a warm welcoming place where no one was a stranger! There are hundreds of other young people whose lives she impacted who called her aunt, grandma and mom, regardless of bloodline.
Carol lived each day with vivacity and spirit, never allowing her terminal illness, PSP, to dampen her love for life and adventure. She found joy in her frequent trips to Florida, basking in the sun, and splashing in the beachside pool. Her passion for life, work, and adventure saw her supporting Don's entrepreneurial endeavors, selling jewelry, and ultimately becoming a licensed insurance broker before her retirement in 2019. Carol's life revolved around the warmth of human connection; she was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend with an exceptional love for babies and children.
Her legacy is filled with countless memories of her warm hospitality, her irresistible cowboy cookies, her love for the river, and her spirited dancing whenever music played. Her kind-hearted nature, willingness to give without hesitation, and her enduring presence at her children's and grandchildren's events will be cherished by many. She will be profoundly missed by her family and numerous friends.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 3-7 P/M at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson, preceded by a rosary service at 2 P/M.
