Carol J. (Neumeister) DeVries, 88, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at home.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A/M, on Monday, October 24, 2016, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, in East Dubuque, with Pastor Sharon Treloar officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery.
Visitation is from 2 P/M to 5 P/M, on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, and from 9:45 A/M to 10:15 A/M, on Monday, October 24, 2016 at the Wesley United Methodist Church.
Carol was born on October 16, 1928, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Edward and Helen (Lehmann) Neumeister. She was united in marriage to John F. DeVries on March 1, 1949, in Dubuque.
She was formerly employed at the F. W. Woolworth Company for many years. Carol was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She and John directed and performed in the East Dubuque Variety shows for over thirty (30) years. Carol was a lifelong Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and an avid NASCAR fan, cheering on her favorite driver, #88 - Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Carol enjoyed crocheting, working puzzles, being with her friends and going to the casino with Norb and Shirley.
Surviving are three (3) children, Deborah Haigh, of Dubuque, IA, Randy (Linda) DeVries, of Charlotte, NC, and Guy (Patty) DeVries, of East Dubuque, IL; six (6) grandchildren, Tisha (Nate Ernst) Montgomery, Brandon (Lisa) DeVries, Rob (Laura) Donner, Heather (John) Hickie, Matt (Sara) DeVries and Ashley (Jason) Lange; eleven (11) great-grandchildren; and her grand dogs, Buddy, Ozzy and Ruby.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John F. DeVries; son-in-law, Al Haigh; and a brother, Edward Neumeister, Jr.
A Carol J. DeVries Memorial Fund has been established.
Carol's family wishes to "thank" Drs. Angela Kelley and Mark Hermann, and their staff for the care provided to their mother and a special "thank you" to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Barb and Peggy, for their loving care of Mom during the final days of her life. "They are truly God's Angels on earth."
