Beverly Ann (Chesterman) Metcalf, 77, of rural Peosta, IA, passed away at 5 P/M, on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at home, surrounded by family and friends, following an extended illness with cancer.

Funeral Services will be at 10 A/M, on Monday, October 13, 2014, at Rockdale United Methodist Church, with Pastor Linda Von Fumetti officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 2 P/M to 7 P/M, on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, IL, and after 9 A/M, on Monday, at the Church.

Bev was born on June 24, 1937, in Dubuque, the daughter of William Frederick and Helen M. (Donatsch) Chesterman. She was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High School, Class of 1955. Bev married James D. "Jim" Metcalf on January 14, 1956, in Dubuque.

Bev was a homemaker in rural Peosta and joined with her husband, Jim, in the ownership and operation of their farm. She always had a bountiful garden, many fruit trees, and enjoyed sharing her produce with family and friends. She was an awesome cook and baker and was known for her delicious angel food cakes and pies. Along with growing produce, she also loved and grew many vaieties of flowers and plants. She was a gifted seamstress. If you would stop at her home, you would more than likely find her at her sewing machine cutting or stitching fabric into the most beautiful quilts that often became gifts for family and friends. She enjoyed dancing and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She also worked part-time for many years as a school bus driver for the Dubuque Community School District. She was a long time member of Rockdale United Methodist Church. Most of all, her love and devotion to her family and friends was endless. She will be deeply missed. Her strength has been an inspiration to all.

Surviving are her husband, James D. "Jim" Metcalf; children, James, Jr. (Roseann) Metcalf and Deb (Joseph) Vize, both of Peosta, IA, Jeffrey A. Metcalf, M.D., of Brighton, CO; eight (8) grandchildren, Gregory (Ashlee) Metcalf, Alexander Metcalf (Angie Kirk), and Tyler Metcalf, Erin (Bryan) Engler, Jolynn (Jim) Hefel, Dayon, Andrew and Ebony Metcalf; five (5) great-grandchildren, Miles Metcalf, Joseph Vize, Kayden and Halle Hefel, and Lily Engler; a brother, William (Linda) Chesterman, Jr.; a sister, Carol Chesterman (Ron Balmer); a sister-in-law, Janice Metcalf, all of Peosta, IA; six (6) nieces and nephews.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents, William Frederick and Helen Chesterman; a daughter, Kimberlyn (Kim) Metcalf; her in-laws, David and Hazel Metcalf; and a brother-in-law, Dale Metcalf.

A Beverly A. Metcalf Memorial Fund has been established.

Bev's family would like to "thank" Dr. Hermann, Tony Heiar and staff, Hospice of Dubuque and Ruth Scheitzach for the wonderful care and support given to Bev during her illness.
