The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery.

Friends and relatives may call from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, and from 8:45 A/M to 9:45 A/M, on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be said at 3:30 P/M, on Tuesday.

Bette was born September 21, 1925, in East Dubuque, the youngest daughter of Henry and Mary (Houselog) Vanderah.  She married Arthur Trannel on September 18, 1946, at St. Mary's Church, in East Dubuque.  He preceded her in death on January 15, 1992.

She lived in East Dubuque all her life until she moved to Sunset Park Place, Dubuque, in 2006.  She attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from East Dubuque High School as valedictorian of her class.  Bette was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and its Altar & Rosary Society.  She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer for many church and school functions.

Bette was an inspiration for her family in her staunch belief and participation in her Catholic faith, in her strong work ethic, and in her commitment to education.  Bette's greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.  She was a huge sports fan and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play basketball, baseball, softball, football, track, swimming, wrestling, rowing and hockey.  She was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bulls.  She enjoyed cooking and was best known for her homemade bread and pies.  She also enjoyed music, dancing, reading, traveling, bowling, golf, and was always ready for a good card game.

She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

She is survived by six (6) sons: James (Marie) Trannel, Joseph (Mary) Trannel, John (Mary) Trannel, and Jeffrey (Lauri) Trannel, all of East Dubuque, IL, Jerald (Diane) Trannel, of Batavia, IL, and Dr. Thomas (Dena) Trannel, of Onalaska, WI; fifteen (15) grandchildren; and sixteen (16) great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Jacob Trannel; two (2) sisters, Anna (Howard) Metzger and Marie (Andy) Roth; and seven (7) brothers, Eldon, Joe, Melvin, Merlin, Bob, Henry and Leo "Babe" Vanderah.

The family would like to "thank" the nurses and staff at Bethany Home for their loving and compassionate care over the last six years and a "special thank you" to Hospice of Dubuque for their support and comfort her last few days.  Also, a "thank you" to the staff at Sunset Park Place for their wonderful care during the years she lived there.
