Anthony "Tony" H. Middendorf, 84, of Menominee, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, IA, from complications of a stroke.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A/M, on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the Nativity BVM Catholic Church, in Menominee, with Fr. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by members of American Legion Post, #787.
Visitation will be from 3 P/M to 8 P/M, on Friday, May 13, 2016, where the parish rosary will be recited at 2:30 P/M, and members of the American Legion, Post #787, will meet at 5 P/M, and from 8:45 A/M to 9:45 A/M, on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the Miller Funeral Home, in East Dubuque.
Tony was born on June 9, 1931, in Menominee, the son of Joseph and Cecelia (Mensen) Middendorf. He married Jane Hilby on September 12, 1959, at Nativity BVM Church, Menominee.
Tony farmed the family farm his entire life. He never passed up a good game of euchre. Tony was a member of Nativity BVM Parish and a prior member of the Holy Name Society. He was an Army Staff Sargent in the Korean War. Tony served from April, 1954, to February, 1956. He was a Menominee Township Trustee since 1982.
Surviving are his wife, Jane; a son, Tom, of Menominee, IL; two (2) daughters, Cathy (John) Digman, of East Dubuque, IL, and Paula (Mike) Montag, of Menominee, IL; six (6) grandchildren, Dusty and Jacob Digman, Samantha, Abbie, Tony, and Andy Montag; a sister, Rosalinda Wubben, of Scales Mound, IL; a brother, Walter (Marceline) Middendorf, of Menominee, IL; his in-laws, Arlene Budden, of Cuba City, WI, Mae (Jerry) Kuhl, of Hazel Green, WI, Mary Hilby, of Mineral Point, WI, and Wilma Hilby, of Menominee, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Cecelia; four (4) brothers, Barney (Irene) Oscar (Loretta), Henry and Elmer Middendorf; a sister, Rita (Bernard) Dietzel; and in-laws, Luella (Pope) Belken, Earl Hilby, Ethel (Heiny) Martin, Helen (Don) Roth, Lillian (Howard) Tranel, Vi (Dorrance) Pluym and Richard Hilby.
In lieu of flowers, a Tony Middendorf Memorial Fund has been established.
The family would like to "thank" the Doctors and Nurses at both Mercy ER and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the Mercy Med Flight team for their wonderful care of Tony.
