Anita Sheean, 98, of Scales Mound, IL, passed away at 7:20 P/M, Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Galena-Stauss Senior Care Community, Galena, IL.

A Celebration of her life will be at 3 P/M, Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Miller & Steinke Funeral Home, Scales Mound, with Rev. Penny Thomson officiating. Burial will be in the Scales Mound Cemetery.

Mrs. Sheean was born on October 29, 1914, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Wagner) Bauer. She was united in marriage to Thomas D. Sheean on December 4, 1939, in Nevada, IA. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1977.

Anita was a life long resident of Scales Mound. She and her husband, Tom, owned an excavation business.

She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Scales Mound, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the FHC, and was a Girl Scout troop leader whose troop painted the "Jesus Saves" rock near Scales Mound.

Anita was known for helping the homebound people of Scales Mound, visiting and spreading cheer. She enjoyed the arts, especially China and Oil painting, and was a National Registered China Painter.

Surviving are two children, Mary Ann (Jim) Sanders, of Sammamish, WA, and Terry (Karen) Sheean, of Surprise, AZ; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Charles, Bill, Joe, and Bob; and two sisters, Gerene Freiburger and Erma Petsche.

Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Scales Mound.
