Obituary

Alvina C. (Ricke) Hasken, 102, of Bethany Home, Dubuque, IA, and formerly of East Dubuque, IL, passed away at 4:52 P/M, Friday, August 23, 2013, at Bethany Home, surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A/M, Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at St. Mary's Church, East Dubuque, with Rev. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 P/M to 8 P/M, Tuesday, August 27, 2013, and after 9:45 A/M, Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, where the parish rosary will be recited at 3:45 P/M on Tuesday, and members of the East Dubuque Volunteer Fire Department will meet at 6 P/M, Tuesday.

Mrs. Hasken was born on July 12, 1911, near Menominee, IL, the daughter of Herman & Mary (Handfelt) Ricke.

She was formerly employed for 21 years at the El Rancho Supper Club in downtown East Dubuque and later at Roshek's Department Store in Dubuque until her retirement in 1981. Alvina was a member of St. Mary's Parish and its Altar & Rosary Society, and a former member of St. Mary's Senior Citizens Club.

Alvina loved to play bingo, enjoyed a good game of cards, especially euchre, enjoyed gardening and flowers, and was an accomplished seamstress.

Surviving are a daughter, Rose Ann (Harlan) Nauman, of East Dubuque, IL; three sons, Donald C. Hasken, of Dubuque, IA, Vincent J. (Lou Mae) Hasken and Earl J (Doris) Hasken, both of East Dubuque, IL; a son-in-law, Roger Gartner, of Arvada, CO; 32 Grandchildren; 106 Great-Grandchildren; 21 Great-Great-Grandchildren; 1 half-brother, Clarence (Mary) Ricke, of Menominee, IL; 4 half-sisters, Rosella McCarthy, of Lake Villa, IL, Alverna Ricke, of Lake Zurich, IL, Rosemary (Foster) Heller, of Stockton, IL, and Anna Mae (Bob) S
adler of Bellevue, IA.

She was preceded in death by a Daughter, Darlene Gartner; 2 Grandsons, Patrick and Greg Hasken; 2 Great-Grandsons, Joel and Allen Hasken, Jr; 1 Daugher-in-law, Betty Hasken; 2 Sisters, Irma Kohler and Rita Knautz; 1 Half-sister, Celia Ricke; and by 5 Brothers, Victor, Ed, Joe, Al and Bill Ricke.

An Alvina C. Hasken Memorial Fund has been established.
