IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Allan H
Kruger
November 16, 1933 – December 30, 2025
Allan H. Kruger "Allie," 92, of Scales Mound, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
Allan was born on November 16, 1933, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Myron and Mildred (McFadden) Kruger. He was the youngest of three boys and grew up with a life deeply rooted in family, faith, and farming.
A lifelong farmer, Allan was known for doing things the old-fashioned way—often farming in a collared shirt with a team of horses, later adding a 45 Allis Chalmers tractor and Hereford cattle. He believed if you took care of things, they would last, and he lived that belief every day. He proudly served in the United States Army (1954-1956) before returning home to continue farming.
Allan graduated from Scales Mound High School and loved telling stories from his ball-playing days. Known for his quick wit and dry humor, he became a beloved jokester in his later years and never turned down ice cream. His favorite sayings, "Clean up your plate," "When you can't laugh anymore, it's over," and a handshake followed by "Always good today"—will forever be remembered by those who loved him.
Through lifelong friends, Allan met the love of his life, Janet (Ditzler) Kruger. The two were married just six months later on May 11, 1963, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Galena, Illinois. Their 62-year marriage was a beautiful example of enduring love, partnership, and faith. Together they raised two sons and enjoyed traveling with friends, attending Sunday Church, and spending cherished time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Allan is survived by his loving wife, Janet Kruger; son, Greg Kruger and wife Connie (Spillane) Kruger; grandchildren, Katie (Greg) Leahy, Ryan (Kristen) Kruger, and Kristy (Tanner) Kruger; and great-grandchildren, Tyson and Ila-Ann Leahy. He is also survived by brother-in-law, George Ditzler, Bob (Judy) LaFurge; sister-in-law, Joanne Kruger; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Mildred (McFadden) Kruger; his in-laws, Malvin (Ruth) Ditzler and Esther Ditzler; his son, Danny Kruger; brothers, Wayne and James Kruger; and sister-in-law, Maxine (March) Kruger.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m., on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Miller-Steinke Funeral Home, in Scales Mound, IL, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 (Noon), on Monday, with Pastor Dottie Morizzo officiating. Burial will follow in the Scales Mound Twp. Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor him with laughter, enjoying a bowl of ice cream, and spending time with loved ones who matter most.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Dottie, Dr. Vandigo, the staff at Midwest Medical, and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Jessica and Melanie, for their compassionate care and support.
